Usually, more than one person is able to alert authorities and help is on its way within a matter of minutes. However, there are also incidents when people crash and are stranded or their vehicle becomes disabled and they are not near anyone. If no one has seen what has happened, the victims may be left to find a way out and get help themselves.

As such, it is important that people outfit their car with a basic emergency kit that includes the essentials needed to protect themselves and maximize the time they have. According to ready.gov, the following items should be inside of every person's car:

A cellphone charger that is compatible with the connection in their vehicle.
Jumper cables.
A map.
Extra clothing and a blanket for warmth.
Flares.

When people become stranded, they may be unsure of what to do. Because it can be a worrisome situation, being educated about how to stay safe is imperative to a person's ability to remain calm if they ever find themselves in a dangerous predicament. KSLTV suggests that people place flares about 40 feet in every direction of their vehicle, but then remain inside of their vehicle until help arrives.
