Pedestrian Accidents in Maryland
Pedestrian accidents across the United States take the lives of more than 4,500 people every year. Tens of thousands more are left with severe injuries that require emergency treatment. Here in Maryland, we see our fair share of these life-changing crashes. Given the vulnerability of pedestrians during crashes, these victims are more likely to suffer from injuries that require extensive medical care. In many instances, pedestrians have to go through emergency surgery and spend months recovering from their injuries. There are instances where victims of pedestrian accidents are able to take legal action against those who cause them harm. After filing a personal injury lawsuit, a victim will need to prove that negligence existed at the time of the crash. This involves proving to the court that the driver owed the duty of care, the driver breached the duty, and, as a result, the claimant suffered injuries. As a result of the injuries, victims must also prove they suffered damages. In personal injury law, the term "damages" is used in reference to medical expenses, pain and suffering, and other consequences of crashes. Working with a pedestrian accident lawyer in Silver Spring can help to ensure you have the strongest case possible while arguing your claim.
